Tea has been drunk around the world for centuries and is one of the most popular beverages which are consumed in large quantities around the world. There are many different varieties of tea which has stimulated a growth in the market for almost as many types of tea mugs.

Tea drinking is so popular for many reasons. Apart from being a refreshing drink in its own right, many varieties have healing properties particularly if you try many of the herbal varieties. However the power of tea goes even further than that.

For many people the whole ritual of tea making is as much a part of the pleasure as the drinking of it. They may have a favourite teapot and possibly tea cosy, both of which help to stimulate memories of relaxing and taking a little time out from a busy schedule.

However, the humble tea mug has also taken on a whole new role as technology advances and designs get more adventurous. They can be made from a number of materials, such as, porcelain, melamine, thick glass or even ceramic. Most people tend to have a personal preference for the mug they choose based on the feel when holding and drinking from the mug, plus its appearance.

The comfort gained from a familiar mug, with just the right weight and thickness for you, all adds to the pleasure of tea drinking. But then there is colour. You may opt for a single colour which matches your other kitchenware, or a highly patterned set. However, as printing technology has advanced over the years there are now many more options available. Often people like to choose one with a specific logo printed on it, to advertise their likes and dislikes, such as their favourite football team. Alternatively cartoon characters have become popular to add an extra happy memory for the past to ones tea drinking experience. It is also now a trend to personalise mugs with a company logo or the person’s name, which can be a help in a busy office.

But just choosing the design isn’t enough these days. Now there are other decisions to be made. If you prefer to drink leaf tea, rather than when it is made from a teabag, you may not always be in the position to make a full pot. But this problem can be resolved by purchasing a mug with an infuser. Therefore you can make your perfect cup of tea without having to waste some.

Alternatively, for those who can’t easily dispose of the teabag and don’t want to balance it on a saucer, some designs now have a convenient pouch moulded into the mug itself so the bag can be stored there when you have infused the perfect cup. There are even mugs available with an inbuilt lid to cover your drink if you suddenly get called away! Whatever your choice in design and style there are certainly many options available to help you create the perfect relaxing experience with a traditional cup of tea.
